Walking categories are a matter of personal opinion and one person’s easy stroll is another person’s strenuous trek!
This is an approximate guide for reasonably fit people depending on the area, terrain, ascent and time of year. Most of our walks are on good paths, but you need to be prepared for muddy or wet slippery paths and occasionally gates or stiles which can sometimes be awkward to cross.
Saturday walks:
Figures if included indicate mileage. E is easy. The walks are normally 8 to 10 miles unless shown as Short & Leisurely, in which case they are up to 7 miles.
Sunday walks:
A walks are about 13-17 miles and often include hilly or rough terrain.
B walks about 9-12 miles and are mostly on good paths. B walks are shorter and easier than the matching A walks.
C walks are easier strolls.
Places of interest may be suggestions rather than formally 'led' walks.
Most people would be fit enough to do the 10 or so miles on our Saturday walks and Sunday "B" walks.
However, walking is much more enjoyable if you are reasonably fit. Walking a couple of miles three times a week is an easy way to fitness.
If you would like to come walking, but you have doubts about your fitness, why not fit a few short walks into your weekly routine-say on your journey to work or to the shops?
As the Saturday walks are by public transport, if you find the walk too long you can often simply catch a bus home whenever you feel you have walked far enough!
People who start walking for the first time may sometimes find the first two or three weeks a little tiring. However, after only six to eight weeks of regular walking you will be amongst the fittest people in your age group!
